Dr. Sara Alves is the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Advisor for Women Who Lead. Her aim is to ensure that EDI is front and central by utilizing a critical race theoretical lens to provide professional high quality advice and guidance so that Women Who Lead can continue to embed the commitment of EDI into all of their practices.
As an educator, mental health lead, and equity committee lead, Sara implements school and board-wide initiatives through a critical examination of physical spaces, resources, policies, and structures. She addressed how resources can be utilized to create an authentically inclusive atmosphere with a focus on diverse representation. She uses critical race theory to highlight issues with the unintentional reinscription of white dominance in texts and images within organizations.
As a woman who broke free of her cultural barriers and the first woman in her family to graduate from post-secondary schooling, Sara’s passion to engage and inspire women leaders comes from her love of education and empowerment through an equitable lens.
In her free time Sara is buried under personal development books, participates in yoga, or partakes in adventures such as skydiving and hot air ballooning!
